Pio Del Ramo
Soil & Climate
The Pio Del Ramo climate has is an arid climate with very little rain, about 11.8 inches of rain per year, with quite hot summers, surpassing 104 degrees and cold winters, easily below 32 degrees. It’s under such extreme climate conditions, against what would seem logical, the making of what will becomes an excellent wine takes place. The reason is that this climate favors a healthy growth, both for the plant and the fruit. The lack of humidity makes minimal handling required, since rot cannot happen within with so little rain. Thankfully because of these conditions, they can get healthier, more ecologically produced wines.
The quality of the wine starts off with the soil where the vine produces its fruit. The so-called “terroir” is the perfect combination of soil, climate, location and orientation of the vineyards. In Pio Del Ramo's case all of those characteristics are present. The soils of this zone are all dark, or dark-calcareous, with a good water holding capacity and medium permeability, which allows vines to survive under long-lasting water scarcity situations. The soil has little organic matter, high PH levels, and low salt levels and the loam / sandy loam texture allows for good ventilation of the grape root stock.
Modern Technology Combined
with Traditional Winemaking
Between the mountain ranges of Madroño and Parda lay Bodegas Pío del Ramo, a winery founded in 2007 thanks to the effort and boldness of its creator Pío del Ramo Nuñez. It’s here, in this land linked to the vines and the wine, where its creator managed to achieve his dream. A dream that was a mix of passion, know-how, and the knowledge of the land and the vines.
The winery has about 27000 square feet in it's facilities. Equipped with latest technology, this modern facility was destined to create top quality wines. Don’t be deceived by its rustic looks, since this is how it blends perfectly with the local architecture while hosting state of the art technology for us, thus allowing us to make wine under clean, safe and highly controlled circumstances.
